Meet Chesley!
If you're looking for a clever, affectionate, playful little dog with plenty of personality and just a touch of delightful chaos, Chesley could be your girl!
Chesley is taller and more athletic than a typical Dachshund, suggesting there may be a little bit of 'something else' in her, although we're not quite sure what! She certainly has the athleticism and impressive jumping ability to make her foster humans wonder if there might be a little Kelpie in there somewhere!
Chesley absolutely loves her people and wants to be involved in everything. She's a cuddler, lap dog and professional doona burrower who will happily follow you around the house to make sure she doesn't miss anything. She's very trusting and has settled beautifully into foster care, sleeping happily in her crate inside and also quite happy spending some time on her own outside.
Chesley LOVES people, other dogs and is very social. Her enthusiasm can be quite intense at times. When someone arrives at her foster house, her little body wiggles with excitement! While out, if she spots someone or another dog she'd like to say hello to, she can become very excited, vocal and determined to get there, pulling strongly on the lead. Her foster humans have been working on lead manners with her and her forever home must be willing to continue this. Chesley has been on lots of adventures with her foster humans, from training to the beach and Bunnings, and loved every one of them.
Chesley is smart but has a wonderful Dachshund streak, she knows 'sit' but still working on her 'stay' and recall. For now, Chesley will need to remain on lead while she masters listening to her humans when they call her back. She's not particularly food motivated, so training can require a little creativity. Regular treats just don't cut it with Chesley, she wants the good stuff! Chesley has lots of energy and will require daily exercise and enrichment.
Chesley is mostly house trained and will generally head to the back door when she needs to go outside. Easy access to a secure yard would be ideal while she is still learning to avoid any accidents.
Chesley is incredibly tolerant and easy going when being handled and absolutely loves a cuddle. Her foster family think she would cope well with children in the house, as long as they are respectful of her boundaries. She's also very social with other dogs and loves having furry friends around. Chesley has been tested with cats and will not be suitable to a household with cat/s.
More than anything, Chesley would love a family who wants to include her in everyday life - walks, outings, adventures and simply hanging out together at home. She's the sort of dog who wants to be part of the action and would make a wonderful little sidekick for a family looking for a fun, affectionate and very entertaining companion. Most of all, she just needs a family who will love her for the funny, clever, affectionate and delightfully cheeky little character she is.
Chesley is desexed, microchipped, up to date with vaccinations, flea and worm treatments.
**Please note: Chesley has only got one kidney - this has been checked by our partner vet and we have been advised this should not cause any problems or impact her life in any way. She is expected to live a normal, happy life.
