Meet Shadow! Your next adventure buddy!
In just the last few weeks, Shadows foster parents say he's become a new dog! He is no longer a shy unsure pup, he is confident and ready to take on the world! He loves all things adventure, bush walks, hiking, camping, beach trips, car rides, pack walks with friends, anything outdoors with his human he's ready to join in. Shadow is always ready to play, he loves toys, fetch, tug and just having fun doing zoomies. As he is still growing, he does need his rest but we do anticipate he will be a high energy boy once fully grown. He doesn't crave affection and isn't much of a cuddle dog, but he loves to spend his evenings curled up on the couch with you watching tv.
Shadow is still naturally cautious of certain things but is now very happy to be around new people as long as they don’t approach him too abruptly. Once he feels comfortable, he will happily accept a chest scratch and be on his way. He will, however, always be down to play with anyone, and accept treats of course! When out and about Shadow is learning to be neutral towards people and other dogs, he is quite happy to just hang out and do his own thing but never says no to making new dog friends. He can be a bit rude when first meeting another dog and a bit pushy but that doesn’t last long, before you know it he is quickly bouncing around and ready to have fun. He is a rough player and can be mouthy, so is best playing with other large breed dogs who will tell him when it's enough and set boundaries.
This guy will give you lots of laughs, he is goofy, clumsy and has zero life preservation skills. He is always ready to try new things and while sometimes he might find the odd thing a bit suspicious, like a weird looking tree stump, a weird statue in the neighbours’ yard, or a piece of tissue paper that flew over the fence. He is very quick to get over his fears and face things head on and with continued confidence building and guidance from his human, he will grow up to be an awesome dog that will bring nothing but fun into your life.
He does have a high prey drive and loves chasing small animals, so will need to be kept on lead until he has perfect recall. At only 5 months old he is already doing amazing! He has recalled away form birds, other dogs and people, occasionally something much more exciting will have his attention, but has shown amazing recall skills so far. Shadow is a smart boy and has been learning so much, he knows some basic obedience, is working on his loose leash walking, knows to wait for his food, go in his crate when asked, knows to not run out the door when it’s opened and is very responsive to his reward marker ("yes").
The ideal home for Shadow will have no children under 15, no small pets like cats, birds, rabbits etc. He would do well with another dog friend but would also do well on his own. His foster humans work full time and he handles being alone as long as he some toys to play with and nice spot to sunbake. Shadow will be a large breed dog, his DNA test results guessed he would be around the 30kg mark, his new family will need to be ready to take on a higher energy large breed dog and continue his training and confidence building.
Shadow is toilet trained, knows how to use a doggy door, desexed, microchipped and kept up to date with his vaccinations, flea and worm treatments.
